FAQs
What is “Oxidation” in metal coatings?
Oxidation finishes are designed to replicate naturally oxidised metals, including corten and rust effects, adding texture and depth to surfaces that evoke weathered metal.
What are Oxidant Coatings like Redox™?
Oxidant coatings use controlled reactions to transform surfaces (often iron) into richly coloured, artistic oxidised finishes, perfect for unique sculptural and architectural applications.
How do you stop the oxidation process once the desired look is achieved?
Once the desired level of rust or patina is reached, a specific neutraliser or clear sealer is applied to "freeze" the reaction and protect the surface from further degradation.
Is the rust effect created by oxidant coatings "dirty" to the touch?
Unlike natural rust which can flake off, our oxidant coatings are sealed with professional lacquers, ensuring the "aged" industrial look is purely visual while remaining clean and smooth to the touch.
Can I create custom patterns with oxidation coatings?
Yes, by varying the application technique of the oxidant liquid (spraying, sponging, or dripping), we can create highly customized, organic patterns that are unique to every project.
What is the difference between a "Corten effect" paint and an "Oxidant" coating?
Corten effect paint uses pigments to mimic the look of rust, whereas an oxidant coating (like Redox™) triggers a real chemical reaction on metal-rich base layers for a more authentic, variegated finish.
Can I see samples before ordering?
Yes, we provide samples for live projects. We can also develop a bespoke sample or mock-up in collaboration with the designers. To find out more, reach out to us at info@materialsassemble.com.
