FAQs
What are the main benefits of using decorative clay plaster on walls?
Decorative clay plaster is a natural, non-toxic finish that enhances indoor air quality by absorbing and releasing moisture. It helps regulate humidity, creating a more comfortable living environment. With its soft matte texture and range of natural pigments, it adds warmth, depth, and organic beauty to interiors while being resistant to mold, fading, and cracking.
What colours does it come in?
It comes in 18 standard colours that are the true colours of the clay. As the colours are not pigmented but come from natural minerals and they don't fade over time. We can also do bespoke colours for bigger projects.
Is decorative clay plaster environmentally friendly?
Yes, the clay is made from natural minerals all of which are renewable and biodegradable. Unlike synthetic paints or plasters, it contains no VOCs and produces minimal waste during installation.
Can I apply decorative clay plaster myself, or do I need a professional?
As decorative clay plaster is a special finish we would recommend working with professionals. We have installers worldwide that can assist with this job. To learn more about installation support email us at info@materialsassemble.com.
What surfaces can decorative clay plaster be applied to?
Decorative clay plaster can be applied to a variety of substrates. The surface must be clean and stable for best adhesion. In some cases, a primer or base coat may be needed to create the ideal substrate.
How thick is decorative clay plaster, and how many coats are required?
Typically, decorative clay plaster is applied in two to three thin coats, resulting in a total thickness of around 2–5 millimeters. Multiple layers allow for smoother texture, richer color depth, and a more durable surface finish. However the clay should have minimal thickness to ensure durability and no cracking overtime.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We can ship our clay and do projects worldwide. As this is a special finish we would recommend getting in touch early so that we can check if there is an installer available in the area.
How long does decorative clay plaster last?
When properly applied and maintained, clay plaster can last for years. Its natural durability and resistance to fading or cracking make it a long-term investment in both aesthetics and indoor health.
Can I see samples before ordering?
Yes, we provide A4 samples for live projects. We can also develop a bespoke sample or mock-up in collaboration with the designers. To find out more, reach out to us at info@materialsassemble.com.
